Rabbit or Hare

うさぎと野うさぎ

Another Easter charm is rabbit – or hare, both have just started to jump around fields.  I think, this stamp, illustration by Celestine Piatti, is hare – as it has long and stand up ears.  In the mountain area, their hair turns White as camouflage and it is the moment when some patchy browns come back.

Second one is bull in spring field – both stamps are in vigorous lines and bright colours – and for me they have evocative atmosphere of early 1990’s.  Is that colour on letters make me think so?  I have featured an Animal Welfare stamps by same designer, which is from 1959 – 32 years apart.

イースターの飾りによく登場するうさぎです。最近まで知らなかったけど、うさぎと野うさぎはヨーロッパでははっきり区別されているようで、、、これは野うさぎですね。耳が大きく、ぴんと立っているし、冬の保護色から茶色に戻る途中のような斑が描かれているから。フレンチレストランのメニューに出てくるのは、野うさぎです。

闊達なドローイングと春らしい色使い。1990年代ぽいな〜と感じるのは、文字に重ねた色の使い方でしょうか？以前に載せたフクロウとうさぎのイラストがとってもかわいい動物保護の切手と同じデザイナーの手によるものでしたが、その間には32年の年月が経っています。
