甲冑をまとって

I did not post any stamp for a month and a half – I had been living with a great anxiety about my first long trip to Japan since I had medical treatment last September.  I had my Meningioma, a type of tumour, removed in a long operation. It had been growing for many years just behind of my left eye.  After that I had Gamma Knife surgery, a type of radiotherapy treatment.  When the doctor said I was OK for long flights, I booked my trip to see my family and friends, who had been concerned about me.

Psychological preparation before the departure was more difficult than the bag packing – Anyway, I did make a trip, saw loving people and got back to home.  I could not contact many people who were worrying about me – but it was all I could do to complete this first mission after half a year, without fainting or getting worn-out too badly…  I needed a full suit of armour and a crested horse ( my partner who supported me during this trip ), really.

ひと月半、更新していませんでした。

去年の9月と12月に、長い時間をかけて左目の後ろに育っていた髄膜腫という名前の腫瘍を摘出する手術と、ガンマ・ナイフと呼ばれる放射線治療を受けました。2月初旬に経過も良く長時間のフライトも大丈夫と医師に言われたので、日本で心配していた家族に会いに帰る旅程を立てたのだけど、出発前になっても気がかりな「疲れやすさ」がほとんど改善されていなくて、こんな状態で旅行して大丈夫だろうか？と不安におそわれ、かなり凹み。

ともかく、できるだけ予定に縛られないよう、休みながら移動するように調整しながら、東京ー広島を往復し、ロンドンまで戻りました。心配してくださっていた多くの方たちに、帰国中に会えなかったことが心残りなのですが、、、ともかく倒れたり寝込んだりしないで旅を終えたことをご報告します。今思うと、旅行中はこの切手のような甲冑をまとった騎士の気分だったなぁ、と振り返りながら。一緒に旅行したパートナーが、同じ紋章をまとった馬だったような、、、。

このスェーデンの切手は、13世紀後半から14世紀にかけて活躍した皇子の騎士像です。頭の飾りが、、戦争向きではないですね。
