静かな日々（は終わった）

Since Christmas Day, we had quiet and peaceful days here on the fringe of London, without much noise (except neighbour’s dog barking) – then this morning those annoying noises of angle grinders or leaf blowers are back, as before.
And the infuriating news from Hong Kong – that free journalism there is forced to be quiet…
クリスマス・イブの夕方ぐらいから、近所でいつも響いている何かを削るマシーン音とか枯葉を飛ばす（公道に）リーフ・ブローワーの音がぱったり止んで、振り替え休日の火曜が終わるまでは静かな日々が続きました。あぁ平和だ、、と思っていたのに今朝はもうすべてが元に戻り。。。
そして今日の昼に届いた、香港で報道の自由を維持しようとふんばった出版社が捜査を受け、閉鎖されたニュースに悲しくなりました。強制された静かさと、知る権利の侵害はおそろしい。
