Olympic Airways Trans-Atlantic Flights / Athens to New York

An Ionic column is standing in contrast to the skyscraper, celebrating Olympic Airways first flight to North America. One of the three important capital orders of course, and the name has roots from an ancient region on the west coast of Anatolia, in present-day Turkey.

イオニア式の柱がすっくと立ち、左側の摩天楼と対照をなしている図。ギリシャから大西洋を超えてニューヨークまで航路をのばした記念の切手です。国のシンボルとして使われている柱頭ですが、今ではトルコの一部である古代イオニア地方が様式名の由来、というのは意外でした。
