This capital is from the Almohad Caliphate in Morocco in the 12 century, when Romanesque style was popular in Europe and capitals were decorated by a lot of faces and imaginary creatures. This Islamic decoration took a different path with plants and abstract patterns. Very stylish.

これも、力強い切手。12世紀ごろに、モロッコで興ったムワッヒド朝の柱頭。ヨーロッパではロマネスクが流行して、柱頭には聖人や動物がたくさん彫刻されたころ、イスラム系では抽象や幾何形態も組み合わさった、植物模様の装飾が展開していたのですね。「柱頭オーダー萌え」は、まだ続きます(笑。
