ウマイヤ朝の柱頭

I could not find where the original capital of this stamp is recorded – somewhere in Morocco and dated 8th to 10th century, in the style of the Umayyad Caliphate, which occupied the south of the Iberian peninsula, after the Roman empire was dissolved. The style is not very far away from Greek origin Roman capitals, though.

I adore this straightforward and stylish stamp. I’d love to receive post with this kind of stamp on… (but maybe only me being excited about order and capitals?)

この柱頭が記録された場所までたどることができなかったのですが、モロッコのどこかで、作られた時代は8世紀から10世紀の間、とあります。ローマ帝国の解体ののちに今のスペインの南半分まで進出した、当時のウマイヤ朝が残したスタイルだと、歴史家が判断したようです。

それにしても、背筋の伸びた、かっこいい切手。こんな切手で手紙が届いたら、さぞ嬉しいだろうなと想像します（あ、柱頭萌えは、わたしだけ？）。
