Since looking at architectural decoration and capitals, I found several stamps have columns and capitals as a “frame” of the image. I guess those 2D decoration came from old books and religious icons..? This is one of those, and has more oriental decoration – closer to Egyptian capitals, which had a long history from around 2000 BC or earlier.

柱頭の飾り建築のディテールが載った切手を探しているうちに、柱や梁の図柄を「額縁」としているものをかなり発見しました。これもその一つですが、この場合は古代のエジプトの柱頭に起源を持つ、オリエンタルな額縁です。エジプトの神殿に残る飾りのついた柱頭は、紀元前2000年やそれ以前にまで遡るようです。
