St Michael on dragon (or devil?)

15 February 1973, Switzerland
Roman capital of Jean-Baptist Church, Grandson
design: A. Yersin

This capital is typical of the Romanesque era – 11th to 12th century, before Gothic style and high arches were in fashion. A lot of saints are sculpted from stone, a lot of artisan’s time was spent to realise this magical architecture.

The statue is St. Michael with a mythical creature beneath him. Is it dragon or devil..?
