Ox drawn carriages

6 October 1992, Japan
International Letter Writing Week
from Heiji Monogatari Emaki, “Court nobles gathering in carriages”

As this is Mothers’ Day, I am featuring a stamp which I inherited from my mother, who was born in an Ox year.

Oxen had been used largely for transport. In this scroll from the 13th century, Oxen are depicted with nobleman’s carriages together with horses ( two are fighting in the centre! )

This stamp is listed on eBay!
