stinky gem

30 July 1986, Japan
Insects / Poecilocoris lewisi
print method: photogravure with engraving
design: Motoharu Morita / engraver: Hiroshi Sasaki

This is my best favourite one in this series of insects stamps – beautiful shield shape and funny eyes. And many types of this kind are called Stink Bugs with a reason – they produce foul-smelling liquid from their glands if you touch them. There is a spray product in Japan to freeze stink bugs before it releases the liquid – I wonder if they come back from a faint after a while..?

This stamp is listed on eBay.
