This is a similar wasp ( this exact one seems not to occur in the UK ) to the one which stung me about a month ago. Scary dotted eyes and frowning face, but their real threat is their needle/sting which is not depicted.

Wasps seem a bit drowsy in autumn, as their main source of food, liquid produced by their larva is short – that’s why they come to your beer or juice on pub benches – I learnt many things through a painful experience!

これ！ひと月前にわたしの左目の下を刺したのは、このスズメバチの仲間でした。眉間のシワ、黒い点々がある目も獰猛に見えます。アゴも強そう、、でも、一番怖いのは描かれていないおしりの先の針！

ハチの仲間たちは胴がくびれていて固形物を食べられず、エサを運んで育てている幼虫が出す甘い汁から栄養をとっていて、幼虫が巣立つ秋にはそれが減るので、ジュースやビールに寄ってくるのだそうです。いろいろ、知らなかった。
