About 220 years after Letterpress printing, an actor and playwright Alois Senefelder found the method of Lithography by chance (!) – and developed it into a commercial printing technique. This stamp is celebrating that history with a detailed picture of his printing machine printed using the amazing quality of the Lithographic process.

時代は活版印刷の始まりから220年ほど下り、ドイツの俳優で脚本家でもあったアロイス・ゼネフェルダーという人が、リトグラフ（石版画）の原理を偶然（！？）発見し、楽譜の出版を手がけていた会社と共同で、その技法を実用できる印刷技術にしたのだそうです。この切手はその発見と応用を記念した切手で、当時の印刷機の様子が精緻なリトグラフ印刷で描かれています。
