2000 Italy

I have returned from Milano furniture fair last weekend, took 25 hours in total, through night train and Euro tunnel train in a car.  I had new pieces launched in a few places, but I am not sure if these commercial activities are going into the right direction altogether, or not.  I think, we, design industry, are in between realistic momentum and nostalgia for the bubbly time. Italian furniture industry has an unique problem as well – in article, Justin McGuirk is describing a kind of situation there – ‘no one under the age of 60 gets a look-in’.

These stamps depict a lot of famous pieces from Italy.

stamp 1:
‘Arco’ floor lamp by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni for Flos, 1962
‘Carlton’ bookcase by Ettore Sottsass Jr., for Memphis, 1981
‘Cupola’ coffee maker by Aldo Rossi for Alessi, 1988
‘Breeze’ chair by Carlo Bartoli for Segis, 1995
